Vescom’s transparent acoustic curtain fabrics provide five times more sound absorption than standard sheer curtain fabrics

Formoza – one of Vescom’s first successful acoustic sheers – now comes in new dynamic colours for today.

We’ve updated Formoza with a range of rich, architectural colours – from soft metallics such as copper, bronze and pewter to tinted-glass tones. Inspired by the inherent sheen of the sound-absorbing yarn used to weave the curtain fabrics, the 18-colour palette also includes various shades of white, showcasing the subtle yet atmosphere-altering differences between warm and cool, slick and milky.

Architectural palette

The refreshed Formoza marks a significant step forward in our commitment to waste reduction and sustainable materials. As part of our Sustainable Materialogy – materials with a common ground for a common good – the curtain fabric now incorporates 42% recycled polyester FR yarn. By gradually transforming our yarns into recycled polyester FR, we’re using our unique position as producers with our 100% owned weaving mill to drive sustainable change.

The investment company Haniel is located in a 100-year-old, protected monument building at the Duisburg harbor. The administrative building, covering an area of almost 3,000 square meters, was traditionally divided into individual offices, double offices, and a separate executive area.

Now, it has been transformed into a contemporary office landscape by VRAI interior architecture. Based on the company&#039;s philosophy, workspaces in various colour schemes were created. This included the use of the <a href="/en/products/lani">Vescom fabric Lani</a> as curtain fabric in four different colours, as well as the vinyl wallcovering designs <a href="/en/products/nero">Nero</a> and <a href="/en/products/colour-choice">Colour Choice</a>.

From the prestigious company headquarters to a contemporary office landscape

To achieve bright, spacious, and open areas, the building was connected across all floors through a vertical breakthrough. This resulted in 92 workstations with retreat options in the form of lounges, exercise rooms, phone booths, and record studios. These are complemented by meeting rooms and generous community areas with a relaxed living room atmosphere. Different thematic areas are visually separated by colours: starting with &quot;Planet&quot; in green, &quot;Progress&quot; in spacey gray, and &quot;People&quot; in blue, the &quot;Tradition&quot; section appears in warm red. The woven wool felt fabric Lani serves as a flexible visual barrier and contributes to improving acoustics. Originally an upholstery fabric, this soft and simultaneously robust wool design is often used as curtain fabric by architects. Although not a classic acoustic fabric, Lani contributes particularly to sound protection in high spaces with large glass surfaces. Vescom demonstrated the highest flexibility in the colour options: among the 56 available colors, there was no exact matching shade of green. The desired colour was promptly developed in our own laboratory and the fabric was produced in a custom colour at the Vescom weaving mill in Münchberg, Franconia.

Based on the company's philosophy, workspaces in various colour schemes were created. This included the use of the Vescom fabric Lani as curtain fabric in four different colours, as well as the vinyl wallcovering designs Nero and Colour Choice.

Haniel Campus Duisburg – Germany

Flowing forms and structures that merge with each other on different levels characterize the room design of the new BYK Chemie office building in Wesel. The company had an old warehouse converted into a state-of-the-art working environment, where people can work in a concentrated manner, communicate creatively and relax individually. Vescom’s transparent acoustic curtain fabric Formoza serves as a privacy screen and room divider, for good room acoustics and as a striking design element.

The design concept comes from the Düsseldorf <a target="_blank" href="https://www.b-k-p.net/de">architectural firm bkp</a> and was awarded the German Design Award 2021. In addition to classic office workplaces, it includes many sitting areas, meeting rooms as well as retreat areas and open bistro corners. The way in which the individual areas of the office landscape are arranged ensures a particularly high standard of acoustics and thus concentrated work. Pretty remarkable for an an open-plan environment with an area of ​​around 3,000 m2.
